NYSE and Blockchain.com sign MOU to explore tokenized U.S. stock and ETF access

NYSE Group and Blockchain.com announced a memorandum of understanding on September 23 to explore distribution of tokenized U.S. exchange-listed stocks and exchange-traded funds to Blockchain.com users.

The arrangement is exploratory rather than a product launch. Any proposed access would rely on NYSE’s planned digital alternative trading system and would be subject to applicable regulatory approvals.

The companies also said they intend to explore market-data collaboration, including the potential exchange of crypto, NYSE and ICE data feeds and the integration of certain NYSE and ICE data into Blockchain.com’s app.

An exploratory agreement, not a live service

The memorandum of understanding outlines a possible route for Blockchain.com users to access tokenized U.S. exchange-listed equities and ETFs through NYSE’s planned digital ATS.

However, the announcement does not establish that tokenized securities trading is currently available on Blockchain.com. The proposal remains contingent on the planned platform and required regulatory approvals.

That distinction is central to the announcement: the companies have agreed to explore a potential distribution arrangement, rather than confirmed the launch of an operating service.

Planned digital ATS is central to the proposal

NYSE’s planned digital alternative trading system is the proposed venue underpinning the potential arrangement. Blockchain.com’s prospective distribution of tokenized securities would depend on that venue becoming available and on relevant approvals.

The regulatory conditions surrounding tokenized stock trading remain an important consideration for initiatives of this kind. Related developments include the SEC Innovation Exemption Opens Conditional Path for Tokenized Stock Trading.

Market-data integration is also under review

Beyond tokenized securities access, NYSE Group and Blockchain.com said they will explore sharing market-data feeds. The companies identified crypto, NYSE and ICE data as areas for potential exchange.

They also plan to examine incorporating certain NYSE and ICE data into the Blockchain.com app. No specific implementation timeline or final product details were announced.

The MOU places the companies’ work within the broader development of tokenized financial instruments, alongside efforts such as Project Harmonia Opens RFP for Institutional Tokenized Funds on Solana.
