Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang: Only AI Can Combat the Darker Side of AI

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stresses that AI is the most effective solution to fight AI-driven misinformation. He emphasizes the need for AI to tackle fake data produced at high speeds and urges the US government to leverage AI in critical sectors like defense and energy.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang believes that artificial intelligence (AI) itself holds the key to countering the darker uses of AI, particularly in the generation of misinformation. Speaking at an event hosted by the Bipartisan Policy Center on Sept. 27, Huang said, “It’s going to take AI to catch the darker side of AI.” He highlighted how AI is capable of producing fake data at unprecedented speeds, making it imperative for AI to be used in detecting and shutting down such threats just as quickly.

Huang compared AI’s role in fighting misinformation to the evolution of cybersecurity, where increasingly advanced methods are needed to protect against rising threats. He stated that AI will need to play a crucial role in helping organizations and governments stay ahead of cyber threats.

The Nvidia CEO’s comments come at a time of growing concern over AI’s potential to fuel misinformation, especially ahead of key events like the US presidential election. According to a Pew Research Center survey, 60% of Americans expressed deep concern about AI being used to spread false information about candidates.

Huang also suggested that the US government should not only regulate AI but also actively use it, particularly in departments such as Energy and Defense. He called for the creation of an AI supercomputer to advance the country’s leadership in AI technologies.

Huang also forecasted a sharp increase in energy demand due to AI development. He speculated that future AI data centers would need ten to twenty times more energy than those today. He proposed that these data centers could be built near excess energy sources to make AI training more efficient.
