Kraken Wallet adds native DeFi Earn access and expands self-custody features

Kraken announced an upgrade to Kraken Wallet on September 16, 2026, adding native access to eligible DeFi Earn vaults within its self-custody product.

The wallet can now surface eligible vaults available on Kraken Exchange as well as a broader selection from decentralized finance. The change places earning-related functionality alongside wallet management rather than requiring users to access it separately.

The release also broadens the wallet's custody, security and trading features. Kraken said availability varies by jurisdiction, while rewards are variable and not guaranteed.

Users interacting with DeFi vaults remain exposed to technological, market and operational risks associated with smart contracts. The new access does not remove those risks.

DeFi Earn added to the self-custody wallet

The updated Kraken Wallet provides native access to eligible DeFi Earn vaults. According to Kraken, these include eligible vaults available on Kraken Exchange and additional options from DeFi.

The integration extends the wallet's role beyond holding and transferring assets by placing eligible earning opportunities in the same interface. Eligibility and product availability can differ by jurisdiction.

Kraken has separately introduced fixed-rate rewards for certain eligible cash and stablecoin balances, but the DeFi Earn offering described in this update has variable, non-guaranteed rewards.

New wallet types and security controls

Kraken Wallet now supports local seed-phrase wallets and embedded wallets. Embedded wallets can use email, Apple or Google sign-in, and users can operate both wallet types at the same time.

The upgrade adds transaction simulation, malicious-interaction blocking and dApp origin verification. These features are intended to give users more information and safeguards before they approve wallet interactions.

Kraken also added encrypted cloud backup for iOS and Google Drive. Self-custody users should still understand how their wallet access and backup choices affect control of their assets.

Multi-chain swaps, portfolio tools and exchange connectivity

The wallet supports EVM chains, Solana and cross-chain routes. Kraken said its swap function can seek best routes across seven integrated providers.

Other additions include watch-only wallets and a multi-chain portfolio view, which allow users to monitor supported wallets and assets without necessarily using those wallets for transactions. Kraken Wallet also includes a dApp browser and WalletConnect support.

The product now connects directly with Kraken Exchange. The expansion follows other recent additions to Kraken's trading tools, including configurable Smart Grid functionality on Kraken Desktop.
