Solana Brings Transaction V1, Lower Rent and 250ms Slots to Mainnet

Solana Foundation reported that Transaction V1 has reached the network’s mainnet. The changelog also listed two parameter changes: a rent reduction to 5,080 lamports per byte and a slot-time reduction to 250 milliseconds.

According to the foundation, enabling V1 transactions makes Solana program deployments four times cheaper in transaction fees. It attributed the change to transaction sizes that are four times larger.

The changes affect core network mechanics as well as the cost structure for developers deploying programs. The foundation’s update presents them as activated mainnet changes rather than proposals or planned releases.

Transaction V1 reaches mainnet

The foundation said Transaction V1 is now live on Solana mainnet. Its stated effect on program deployment fees comes from allowing transactions that are four times larger.

On that basis, the foundation said deploying Solana programs is four times cheaper in transaction fees when V1 transactions are enabled. The claim concerns transaction fees for deployments and does not establish costs for other types of network activity.

Rent and slot-time parameters change

Solana also activated a rent reduction to 5,080 lamports per byte on mainnet. The supplied update did not provide a prior rent rate or further detail on how the revised parameter applies across account types.

Separately, the network’s slot time was reduced to 250 milliseconds. This is a protocol-level timing change reported alongside the Transaction V1 and rent updates.

  • Rent rate on mainnet: 5,080 lamports per byte
  • Slot time on mainnet: 250 milliseconds
  • Program deployment transaction fees with V1: four times cheaper, according to Solana Foundation

What the update means for developers

The clearest stated developer-facing consequence is lower transaction-fee expense for program deployments using V1 transactions. Developers assessing deployment workflows will need to account for whether V1 transactions are enabled in their tooling and processes.

The update follows other technical developments covered in the network’s changelog, including Firedancer RPC support and ARM validator compatibility. It also arrives as Solana-related initiatives continue to explore institutional tokenized-fund use cases.
