Ethereum Schedules Glamsterdam Activation on Sepolia for October 6, 2026

The Ethereum Foundation has announced that the Glamsterdam network upgrade is scheduled to activate on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, 2026.

Activation is set for 13:53:36 UTC, at epoch 353,024 and slot 11,296,768. The announcement was published on September 17, 2026.

Glamsterdam bundles protocol changes covering block construction, access to blockchain state, and gas accounting. The Sepolia deployment provides a defined testnet milestone, while further activation decisions have not yet been made.

Dates for activation on the Hoodi testnet and Ethereum mainnet were still undecided when the Foundation issued the announcement.

Sepolia activation details

The scheduled Sepolia activation gives Ethereum developers and ecosystem participants a specific point at which to test software and infrastructure against the Glamsterdam ruleset.

The Foundation identified the activation using both Ethereum consensus timing references: epoch 353,024 and slot 11,296,768. These correspond to October 6, 2026, at 13:53:36 UTC.

The announcement does not establish a schedule for Hoodi or Ethereum mainnet. Those dates remain subject to later decisions.

Protocol changes included in Glamsterdam

Glamsterdam includes enshrined proposer-builder separation, a protocol change concerning the relationship between block proposers and builders.

The upgrade also introduces block-level access lists. In addition, it includes changes to gas pricing, gas accounting and the costs associated with state access, with the stated aim of better reflecting resource usage.

The changes are part of a broader set of protocol updates included in the upgrade. The Foundation’s announcement does not provide a mainnet launch date.

What remains to be decided

Sepolia is the first activation date specified in the announcement. Testing on the network can help identify implementation issues before any subsequent deployment decisions.

Hoodi and mainnet timing should not be inferred from the Sepolia date. The Foundation explicitly said those activation dates had not been decided at the time of publication.

The planned testnet step follows ongoing discussion around Ethereum’s upgrade process and longer-term protocol direction.
