Ethereum Foundation Delays Glamsterdam Process Over EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 Risks
The Ethereum Foundation has delayed the Glamsterdam hard-fork process after Chainsecurity identified projects whose assumptions may be affected by EIP-8037 and EIP-8038.
The All Core Developers group also decided not to fork Hoodi until the identified issues are resolved. The decision follows concerns that changes proposed for gas accounting and state could break certain project invariants.
The Foundation has asked contract developers and auditors to assess whether their projects depend on eight invariants that Glamsterdam would break, and to report their findings.

Why the hard-fork process was delayed
According to the Ethereum Foundation, Chainsecurity found projects that may be vulnerable following Glamsterdam because they rely on assumptions affected by EIP-8037 and EIP-8038.
The response was to pause progress on the hard-fork process rather than proceed with the Hoodi fork while compatibility questions remain unresolved. The delay is tied to the identified risks, not to a stated change in the underlying objectives of the proposals.
- Chainsecurity identified potentially affected projects.
- The All Core Developers group delayed the hard-fork process.
- The Hoodi fork will not proceed until the issues are resolved.
EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 compatibility concerns
EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 rework gas charges for certain operations and for state. Projects that depend on existing behavior in these areas may therefore need to reassess their assumptions.
The Foundation specifically highlighted eight invariants for review. An invariant is an assumption a contract or system expects to remain true; if a proposed network change breaks that assumption, a project could require changes before the upgrade is deployed.
Call for developer and auditor review
The Ethereum Foundation is asking contract developers and auditors to check their projects against the eight potentially affected invariants and report any findings. That review is intended to help establish the scope of the compatibility issues before the delayed process resumes.

The request places the immediate focus on technical validation across contracts and related systems. Developers following Ethereum protocol work can also review the Foundation’s separate work on native transaction assertions for post-execution checks through the related coverage linked in this article.
- Review whether project assumptions depend on the eight identified invariants.
- Report compatibility findings to support resolution of the issues.
- Monitor further Ethereum Foundation and core developer updates on the delayed process.
