Bitcoin has surged to account for around 1.7% of the global money supply, based on calculations by River, a crypto financial services firm. This figure compares Bitcoin’s market capitalization—estimated near $2.29 trillion—to a vast pool of global money, including the M2 money supply across major fiat currencies and gold’s market capitalization.

Simultaneously, Fed Chair Jerome Powell injected a wave of optimism into financial markets during his keynote at the Jackson Hole Symposium, suggesting that the evolving labor market outlook and tariff-driven inflation pressures may “warrant adjusting” the current monetary stance. While he didn’t specify a date, market participants interpreted this as an implicit cue for imminent rate cuts.
The combination of a growing global share of hard money like Bitcoin and signals of easing central bank policy has propelled prices higher. Markets responded quickly, with Bitcoin rebounding from below $112,000 to around $116,500, while major crypto-linked equities—such as Strategy (MSTR) and Coinbase (COIN)—each shot up between 5% and 7%. Altcoins like Ethereum and Solana also climbed.
The markets are now pricing in a high probability of a rate cut as early as September, with tools like the CME FedWatch showing odds between 80–87%—a steep rise from pre-speech levels.
