Samsung Expands Blockchain to Boost AI Home Device Security with Trust Chain

Samsung will enhance security for AI home devices by integrating blockchain through its Knox Matrix framework, creating a “Trust Chain” for interconnected appliances to monitor each other for threats.

Samsung is stepping up its commitment to security by integrating blockchain technology into its artificial intelligence (AI) home appliances. This new initiative is part of the expansion of Samsung’s Knox Matrix framework, previously employed for mobile devices and TVs, to a broader range of smart home devices.

On October 21, Samsung announced that the enhanced framework, named “Trust Chain,” uses a private blockchain to enable connected devices to monitor one another for potential security threats. This blockchain-based system is designed to alert users when an issue arises, ensuring that home appliances remain secure while interacting with each other.

“Based on blockchain technology, Trust Chain allows connected devices to monitor each other for security threats and notifies users of threat-blocking measures if there is a problem with the security status,” Samsung said in its blog post.

Trust Chain and Cross-Platform Security

The Trust Chain mechanism is central to the Knox Matrix framework, allowing Samsung’s devices, such as smart fridges, washing machines, and TVs, to collaboratively protect each other by sharing security data across a private blockchain network. This system not only boosts the security of each individual device but also strengthens the network as a whole by creating multiple layers of protection.

Additionally, Samsung’s Cross Platform technology ensures that security standards remain consistent across devices, regardless of their operating system. This is especially important as the average household incorporates an increasing number of smart devices from different platforms. The Credential Sync feature, which encrypts and synchronizes user data across devices, further enhances privacy protection within the Samsung ecosystem.

Future Integration Plans

While Samsung has yet to announce a specific rollout date, the tech giant plans to implement the Knox Matrix security features across its major product lines starting next year. The framework will also include biometric authentication, such as fingerprint recognition, enabling users to securely access applications and services without relying on traditional passwords.

This enhanced security approach will apply to a wide range of Samsung’s home appliances, including its AI-powered devices, marking a significant step forward in smart home security.

Samsung’s integration of blockchain in its smart home devices is not its first venture into the blockchain industry. The company has been actively exploring blockchain solutions across various sectors for several years. Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones are equipped with a Samsung Blockchain Wallet and the Samsung Blockchain Keystore, designed to protect private keys and facilitate the usage of decentralized apps (dApps).
