A new cybersecurity report warns that AI tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini have overtaken cloud drives as the #1 channel for corporate data leaks, raising alarm across enterprises and regulators alike.
According to the Enterprise AI & SaaS Data Security Report (Q4 2025), artificial intelligence systems are now responsible for nearly 24% of unintentional data exfiltration incidents, surpassing email and unmanaged file sharing.
The findings highlight how employees routinely paste sensitive material — from source code to client contracts — into AI tools for analysis or content generation, often unaware that the data may be stored or processed externally.

Security experts warn that generative AI has become the modern “shadow IT,” integrated across marketing, software development, and HR workflows without adequate controls. The report identifies ChatGPT Enterprise, GitHub Copilot, and Microsoft 365 Copilot as the most common vectors for sensitive information exposure.
Cybersecurity analyst Marina Lee from Cybereason said,
“AI assistants are invaluable — but without governance, they can turn every employee into a potential data breach.”
In response, companies like OpenAI and Microsoft have accelerated deployment of enterprise-grade privacy filters and local AI options, while CISOs are pushing for AI activity monitoring and token-level encryption.
As AI productivity tools become ubiquitous, balancing innovation and security will define the next phase of enterprise digital policy.
