TON Blockchain Restores Normal Operations After DOGS Airdrop Causes Block Production Disruption

The TON blockchain resumed normal block production after a brief outage triggered by the DOGS memecoin airdrop, assuring users that no transactions or assets were lost.

The Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain has fully restored its operations after experiencing a significant disruption that halted block production for several hours. The issue, which emerged on August 28, was reportedly caused by an abnormal load on the network linked to the highly anticipated airdrop of DOGS, a new TON-based memecoin.

The TON Foundation, which oversees the blockchain, confirmed the resumption of normal block production in an announcement on X at 05:30 am UTC. “TON is now producing blocks normally! We are back online,” the Foundation stated, providing reassurance to the community after several hours of network instability.

Data from the TON transaction scanner Dton.io confirms that the blockchain has resumed its usual activity, with the network showing a block count of 231,879,089 at the time of writing. The update marked a successful recovery after the TON Foundation first acknowledged the disruption at around 4:00 am UTC, citing an “abnormal load” on the network.

The Foundation clarified that the unusual network congestion was caused by the DOGS airdrop, a memecoin designed to capture the spirit and culture of the Telegram community. The surge in transactions overwhelmed several validators, preventing them from clearing old transactions and ultimately leading to a loss of consensus within the network.

In response, TON Core issued an urgent call for validators to restart their nodes to restore consensus and bring the network back online. Despite the disruption, the TON Foundation assured users that all pending transactions would be processed and no cryptocurrency assets would be lost due to the issue.

As the network stabilizes, the TON community is breathing a sigh of relief, with the Foundation’s quick response helping to minimize the impact of the outage. The DOGS memecoin, despite its role in the disruption, continues to generate significant attention within the Telegram ecosystem, showcasing the growing influence of community-driven projects on the TON blockchain.
