New “BugMagnifier” Tool Exposes Hidden Flaws in TON Smart Contracts — Security Teams React

A new academic paper has sparked debate after researchers introduced BugMagnifier, a simulation tool that reveals security flaws in The Open Network’s smart contracts caused by asynchronous message execution.
The study, published on arXiv, analyzed TON’s architecture and found that certain contracts could exhibit unexpected behaviors under specific timing conditions. Unlike Ethereum synchronous model, TON’s unique asynchronous design means that transactions are processed in parallel, sometimes leading to unintended logic collisions.
The researchers tested more than 1,000 deployed contracts and discovered vulnerabilities in around 3 % of them. While no major breaches were reported, the findings have prompted a wave of audits and patches from major validators and dApp developers on the network.

In response, the TON Foundation released a statement on X acknowledging the paper and praising the community for “constructive security collaboration that strengthens our future resilience.”
Cybersecurity experts see the publication as a positive turn for TON, which has been rapidly expanding into DeFi and cross-chain interoperability. The foundation has also pledged to open-source more of its testing infrastructure for third-party researchers.
