Pi Network Unveils “DeFi Evolution” Testnet with Built-In DEX and AMM Capabilities
Pi Network has taken a major step toward mainnet utility by launching its “DeFi Evolution” testnet, allowing users to try decentralized exchange (DEX) and automated market maker (AMM) features on the “Playground” platform.
The Pi Core Team introduced the Playground testnet this week, a sandbox environment that lets pioneers simulate DeFi functions before the long-awaited Protocol v23 upgrade. The new suite includes on-chain swapping, liquidity provision, and test tokenomics to help developers build financial tools within the Pi ecosystem.
According to the official announcement on X, the Pi Playground will support synthetic assets and stablecoin pairs as the network prepares for DeFi integration on mainnet by early 2026.

The Pi Network community — one of the largest in the crypto sphere with over 50 million registered users — has been awaiting DeFi features for years. The team stated that its approach focuses on “accessible DeFi for the masses,” emphasizing low-cost transactions and mobile usability.
Developers who participate in the testnet phase will earn “Dev Pi” credits redeemable for future on-chain rewards. This marks a significant shift from the network’s closed testing to a more public and open ecosystem model.
