Bybit Joins Vietnam Crypto Push as Country Prepares Legal Trading Pilot

Bybit offers tech, compliance, and training support as Vietnam prepares a regulated crypto trading floor and ramps up blockchain investments.

Vietnam is preparing to officially regulate digital asset trading, with major backing from one of the world’s top crypto exchanges—Bybit. On April 17, a strategic meeting was held in Hanoi between Vietnam’s Finance Minister Nguyen Van Thang and Ben Zhou, CEO of Bybit, to chart a path for the country’s pilot digital asset trading platform.

The Ministry of Finance confirmed that the dialogue marked a significant step in shaping Vietnam’s upcoming resolution on legal crypto trading. This initiative is part of a broader state-level strategy to oversee and structure the fast-growing digital asset market.

Ben Zhou emphasized Bybit’s readiness to contribute technical support, particularly in key areas such as risk management, anti-money laundering protocols, and infrastructure development for exchange operations. “Vietnam is the top crypto market in Southeast Asia,” Zhou noted. “There is massive potential here, and we’re committed to helping Vietnam create a robust and transparent regulatory ecosystem.”

Addressing a recent hack in which $1.5 billion was lost, Zhou reassured officials that Bybit had fully reimbursed affected users and continued operations without disruption. “Our 1:1 asset policy ensured that no customer incurred any loss,” he said.

Minister Thang acknowledged the increasing demand for digital assets in Vietnam, noting the country now ranks third globally in crypto transaction volume. He underlined the urgency of moving such activity into a regulated environment. “Without an official framework, investors are vulnerable, and the state cannot properly manage risks,” he said. “This pilot will help us understand how to integrate digital assets safely into our economy.”

The Ministry also expressed gratitude for Bybit’s proposal to assist in workforce training and the co-development of crypto-specific technologies and regulations.

🚨 Web3 Shakeup: Bybit Refocuses Core Strategy

In a parallel move, Bybit announced a sweeping realignment of its Web3 services. By May 31, the exchange will sunset multiple offerings, including its NFT marketplace, Cloud Wallet, Keyless Wallet, DEX Pro, NFT Pro, Swap & Bridge widget, and Inscription Marketplace. On April 28, Bybit will also retire its Web3 Points loyalty program, fiat on-ramp services, and initial DEX offering tools.

These closures are part of Bybit’s pivot toward core business operations with greater focus on scalability and security. The exchange has recently partnered with Avalon to offer yield products tied to fixed-rate Bitcoin lending through institutional-grade infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Zhou also held a private meeting with Nguyen Duy Hung, CEO of SSI Securities, one of Vietnam’s major financial institutions. SSI has launched a $200 million blockchain-focused investment initiative and recently formed strategic partnerships with Tether and KuCoin to boost local Web3 development.

As Vietnam gears up to test and regulate its first crypto trading floor, industry momentum is clearly building—with Bybit poised to play a leading role.
