Telegram Founder Pavel Durov Holds $7M in Notcoin, Aims for 100x Gain to Support Platform

Telegram founder Pavel Durov received $7 million worth of Notcoin from players and plans to hold it for a 100x gain to support Telegram, showing confidence in the token future potential.

In a notable development in the cryptocurrency gaming sector, Telegram founder Pavel Durov has received a substantial gift of Notcoin, valued at approximately $7.3 million, from over half a million players of the viral Telegram-based clicker game. Despite fluctuations in the token value, Durov has announced his intention to hold onto the Notcoin until it appreciates significantly, eyeing a potential 100x increase.

The generous donation, orchestrated by the Notcoin team, Open Builders, aimed to express gratitude to Durov for providing the platform that hosts their popular game. The collective effort resulted in Durov accumulating over 1.03 billion NOT tokens, representing just over 1% of the total Notcoin supply on The Open Network (TON).

Durov, who has a net worth estimated at $15.5 billion by Forbes, stated his long-term commitment to holding the tokens until they reach a value of $680 million. He plans to use the proceeds to enhance Telegram infrastructure, including purchasing additional servers to support the platform growth.

“Half a million Notcoin users gifted me $6.8 million worth of Notcoin! Thank you,” Durov shared on Telegram. “I will hold these coins until they turn to $680 million, at which point I will use them to buy more servers for Telegram.”

Notcoin has made a significant impact as this year biggest gaming token launch, debuting with a market cap nearing $1.5 billion. Despite an initial drop in value, reducing the token price by 50% to just above $0.007, Notcoin remains the 101st most valuable cryptocurrency by market cap, standing at $746 million. The token also achieved an impressive $1 billion in trading volume within its first 24 hours.

The game developers paused the coin-tapping gameplay in April to prepare for the token rollout, with plans to relaunch soon. Co-creator Sasha Plotvinov envisions Notcoin evolving into a hub for multiple games, aiming to become the “Netflix of social, viral games,” further solidifying its presence in the gaming and cryptocurrency landscape.

As the Notcoin community and its value grow, Durov strategic hold on his tokens underscores his belief in the project potential and his commitment to the future development of Telegram.
