Thailand Sets October 16 Start Date for Bitcoin and Ether ETF Rules
Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has issued 11 notifications establishing a regulatory framework for crypto exchange-traded funds. The rules are scheduled to take effect on October 16, 2026.
Bitcoin and Ethereum will be the eligible crypto assets during the initial phase under the framework. The regulations also require crypto ETFs to be listed and traded exclusively on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
The SEC’s announcement creates the conditions for crypto ETF products in Thailand, but it does not say that any individual Bitcoin or Ether ETF has been approved or launched.

Framework sets conditions for crypto ETF products
The new notifications govern the establishment of crypto ETFs within Thailand’s regulatory framework. By defining eligible assets and the venue for listing and trading, the rules set baseline parameters for prospective products.
The initial scope is limited to Bitcoin and Ethereum. This means the framework does not, at this stage, extend eligibility to other crypto assets.
- Rules take effect on October 16, 2026.
- Bitcoin and Ethereum are eligible during the initial phase.
- Crypto ETFs must be listed and traded exclusively on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
No confirmed launches in the SEC announcement
The issuance of regulations should not be treated as confirmation that a Thai crypto ETF is already available to investors. The SEC announcement establishes a framework rather than identifying a specific fund that has received approval or begun trading.
The distinction matters because regulatory rules and product launches are separate steps. Any future filing, approval or exchange listing would require its own confirmation.
Bitcoin and Ether remain the initial focus
Thailand’s initial asset scope mirrors the two largest crypto assets named in the SEC framework. The approach places Bitcoin and Ethereum at the center of the country’s first phase for regulated crypto ETF eligibility.

Elsewhere, market infrastructure for Bitcoin and Ether ETF products has continued to develop, including a Cboe listing framework for leveraged Bitcoin and Ether ETFs. Thailand’s rules, however, specify a domestic listing and trading requirement through the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
Ethereum’s technical development also continues independently of the ETF framework, including the scheduled Glamsterdam activation on Sepolia. These network developments do not change the Thai SEC’s product rules, which are limited to the regulatory structure described in its notifications.
