Trump 100% Tariff Shock Sends Bitcoin Plunging — Trade War Panic Returns

Bitcoin slide below $110,000 was accelerated after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a sweeping 100 % tariff on Chinese technology imports, reigniting global trade fears and slamming risk markets worldwide.

In a surprise press briefing, President Trump unveiled plans for a new tariff package on Chinese semiconductors, EV components, and AI hardware, escalating tensions that had been simmering for months. The announcement rattled global investors and pushed Wall Street into its steepest single-day decline since 2022.

As equities sold off, Bitcoin — long regarded as a hedge against inflation and currency debasement — was caught in the macro crossfire. BTC fell over 9 % in hours, with analysts attributing the drop to forced liquidations and algorithmic selling triggered by macro-correlated bots.

“Bitcoin is still treated as a high-beta risk asset when volatility spikes,” said Matrixport head of research Markus Thielen. “Traders instantly cut exposure when tariffs enter the picture.”

Meanwhile, the dollar index (DXY) surged past 106 as investors fled to cash, putting additional pressure on crypto liquidity. U.S. Treasury yields climbed, and commodities — including gold and oil — experienced sharp swings.

Despite the panic, some analysts believe the move may ultimately reinforce Bitcoin’s narrative as a long-term store of value once volatility cools.
