Pakistan to Deploy National Bitcoin Reserves in DeFi, Eyes Global South Leadership

Pakistan is preparing to integrate its national Bitcoin reserves into DeFi protocols in a bold push toward financial innovation and global digital leadership.

Pakistan is set to make a historic move by channeling its national Bitcoin reserves into decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, aiming to generate yield and elevate its standing in the global digital asset ecosystem.

Bilal Bin Saqib, the chief advisor of the Pakistan Crypto Council, revealed this initiative, highlighting the country’s ambition to become a trailblazer among Global South nations in blockchain adoption.

On June 6, the Pakistan Crypto Council submitted a comprehensive legal framework to regulate and manage the national Bitcoin reserves. The Ministry of Finance has reportedly agreed to fast-track this proposal, indicating governmental commitment to embrace digital assets as part of the country’s financial strategy.

Bilal Bin Saqib, who assumed his advisory role in March 2025, has been instrumental in promoting the integration of cryptocurrency into Pakistan’s economy while aligning regulations with global standards.

To bolster this effort, Pakistan has enlisted the support of prominent Bitcoin advocate Michael Saylor, who will serve as an advisor in shaping the country’s Bitcoin reserve policy and its implementation in DeFi platforms.

This move signals a paradigm shift in how sovereign reserves might be managed in the future, with Pakistan becoming the first known nation to publicly explore DeFi deployment at a national level.
