Crypto Lobbying Disclosures Put About $8M Behind CLARITY Act Push

Crypto companies and trade groups disclosed roughly $13 million in federal lobbying during the first half of 2026, according to reporting based on federal filings.

About $8 million of that activity was linked through disclosure language to efforts supporting the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a proposed U.S. digital-asset market-structure bill. The figure is an analysis of filings, not a single official total assigned to the legislation.

The legislative effort did not clear a key Senate procedural vote in September 2026. The outcome illustrates the limits of measuring a lobbying campaign solely by disclosed spending and its connection to a single bill.

What the disclosure analysis shows

The approximately $8 million estimate reflects lobbying disclosures that referenced the CLARITY Act or related policy matters. Some filings used broader descriptions covering cryptocurrency, financial services or market structure, meaning the records do not establish that every dollar in the analysis was spent exclusively on the bill.

A separate calculation reported by Bloomberg Law placed spending connected to the legislation at more than $8.8 million for a broader group of major crypto organizations. The difference appears to reflect methodology and the organizations included, rather than a direct conflict over a single reported total.

  • Roughly $13 million was disclosed for federal crypto lobbying in the first half of 2026.
  • About $8 million was linked to the CLARITY Act under one disclosure-based analysis.
  • More than $8.8 million was reported under a broader group-based calculation.

Senate vote halted the bill’s advance

The CLARITY Act failed to advance in a key Senate procedural vote in September. The vote prevented the proposed market-structure measure from moving forward at that stage.

The result followed a lobbying push that included companies and trade groups seeking federal rules for digital-asset markets. Disclosed lobbying expenditures show the scope of advocacy activity, but they do not on their own identify how spending was divided among individual issues or legislative provisions.

Why the totals require caution

Federal lobbying reports can identify clients, lobbying firms and issue areas, but the descriptions may cover multiple proposals or broad policy categories. As a result, an estimate tied to CLARITY Act lobbying should be read as a reasoned allocation from the disclosures rather than a precise bill-only ledger.

The gap between the reported estimates reinforces that limitation. Both figures point to significant industry engagement around the legislation, while neither establishes an exact amount devoted only to the CLARITY Act.
