Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has returned to social media after completing a four-month prison sentence in California. The crypto community was greeted with a simple “gm” (good morning) from CZ, marking his first tweet since his release. The post quickly gained significant attention, surpassing 1 million views within an hour of going live.
CZ had been serving time at a low-security correctional facility after pleading guilty in November to failing to implement proper anti-money laundering (AML) processes at Binance. The charges stemmed from a Department of Justice investigation into how Binance operated since its founding in Shanghai in 2017.

As part of a plea deal, CZ agreed to pay a $50 million personal fine, while Binance itself was required to pay a staggering $4.3 billion to settle allegations involving violations of AML and sanction laws. The plea also resulted in CZ stepping down as CEO of Binance, with a court order barring him from serving as an officer with the exchange in the future.
Despite these setbacks, CZ remains one of the wealthiest individuals in the world, with an estimated net worth of over $60 billion, placing him among the top 30 globally. His imprisonment made him the wealthiest person ever to serve time in the U.S.
