Solana Rolls Out v2.2 With 20% Speed Boost, Outpacing Ethereum Pectra Upgrade

Solana claims its new upgrade delivers 5x the performance gain of Ethereum Pectra, as both chains race to lead smart contract scalability.
As Ethereum completes its latest protocol enhancement—the Pectra upgrade—its rival Solana is already escalating the smart contract war with a major performance boost of its own.
Solana’s co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko has announced the rollout of version 2.2, which he says delivers a 20% throughput increase to the network. Yakovenko added that this boost is five times the efficiency gain achieved in Ethereum’s recent Pectra implementation.

While Ethereum’s Pectra marks its third major post-Merge evolution, introducing account abstraction, enhanced validator configurations, and smarter data structures, Solana’s team is leaning hard into the performance narrative, framing their own upgrade as a decisive leap in network capability.
The commentary from Solana’s leadership appears carefully timed. Both ETH and SOL are enjoying upward momentum alongside a broader market recovery, as investors regain confidence following macroeconomic headwinds.
Ethereum, which previously slipped under $2,000, has now rebounded to $2,400 following a surprise U.S.–U.K. trade agreement brokered by President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The geopolitical stability has rippled across global markets, lifting risk assets and injecting new life into the crypto sector.
Meanwhile, Bitcoin has reclaimed the six-figure mark, further fueling optimism among altcoin holders. As capital returns to the ecosystem, platform blockchains are once again in the spotlight—with Solana and Ethereum pushing competing visions for the future of decentralized computation.
Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade focuses on protocol-level refinements that enhance developer flexibility and validator efficiency. These updates are critical as Ethereum inches toward further sharding and scalability layers over the next two years.
Solana, by contrast, remains committed to a monolithic high-speed architecture, emphasizing raw transaction throughput and user responsiveness. The v2.2 release reinforces that commitment, providing tangible improvements in speed just as users and builders begin evaluating long-term infrastructure bets.
For developers and investors alike, this signals a sharpening of the race: Ethereum is betting on modularity and security, while Solana doubles down on speed and user experience. The question of which approach will lead in the next wave of Web3 adoption remains open—but both ecosystems are clearly ramping up the pressure.
As blockchain infrastructure becomes the battleground for billions in future value, the smart contract war is heating up—now powered by competing visions of scalability itself.
