Donald Trump Skips Crypto Talk in Elon Musk Interview, Leaving Industry Disappointed

In a highly anticipated Twitter Spaces interview, former President Donald Trump discussed various topics with Elon Musk but failed to mention cryptocurrency, leaving the crypto community disappointed despite earlier hints of support.

In an eagerly awaited Twitter Spaces interview on Monday, former President Donald Trump joined Elon Musk to discuss a wide range of topics, but to the dismay of many in the cryptocurrency community, he made no mention of crypto or related topics. With over a million listeners tuning in, expectations were high, especially given Trump’s recent moves to appeal to crypto enthusiasts.

The discussion covered well-trodden subjects such as securing the U.S. southern border, the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, immigration policies, and criticism of Vice President Kamala Harris. However, Trump’s silence on cryptocurrency stood out, particularly after recent endorsements and actions that had suggested a growing interest in the digital asset space.

Crypto enthusiasts had high hopes that Trump would address the asset class, especially since more than $4 million was riding on him mentioning certain keywords on Polymarket, with “crypto” leading the list at over $800,000. Despite this, Trump refrained from discussing Bitcoin, blockchain, or any related technologies during the conversation.

The absence of crypto-related dialogue was particularly surprising given that Trump had recently shown signs of support for the industry. Three months ago, Trump accepted crypto donations as part of his campaign efforts, and in June, he specifically endorsed Bitcoin miners. These actions had fueled expectations that he might further align himself with the crypto sector during his interview with Musk.

Listeners, however, were left wanting more as they hoped to hear Trump’s stance on crypto, especially as he campaigns for another term in the White House. The lack of mention was a missed opportunity for Trump to solidify his appeal to crypto holders, a demographic that has been increasingly vocal in the political arena.

Adding to the frustration, many listeners experienced technical difficulties during the interview, with some unable to access the Spaces due to a DDoS attack that Musk later confirmed. Despite these issues, the interview eventually resumed, drawing over a million live listeners, though it failed to deliver the crypto-related content that many had anticipated.

As Trump continues his campaign, it remains to be seen whether he will more directly engage with the crypto community, especially given the rising importance of digital assets in political discourse.
