The memecoin DOGS, built on The Open Network (TON), is taking a philanthropic leap by committing over 6 billion tokens—valued at approximately $4.5 million—to charitable causes worldwide. This initiative follows the launch of a dedicated charity portal in late November, enabling registered nonprofit organizations to apply for funding directly.

DOGS’ founders aim to repurpose unclaimed airdrop tokens to benefit global communities and causes. In a statement to Cointelegraph, the project shared, “Over the course of the year, more than 6 billion DOGS tokens will be distributed to selected organizations, following a thorough approval process to ensure effective use of the funds.”

Partnership with Best Friends Animal Society

As part of its charitable push, DOGS announced a $150,000 partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, a prominent U.S.-based nonprofit focused on animal welfare. The funds will support the organization’s goal of ensuring 90% of animal shelters achieve no-kill status by 2025.

“Through this partnership, we are calling on the crypto community to help pave the way for a brighter future for homeless animals,” said DOGS founder Andrew. Additionally, the collaboration will fund one month of care for adopted dogs.

Spotty, the mascot of DOGS, will also take on the role of an ambassador for Best Friends Animal Society, featuring in promotional campaigns and events.

A Legacy of Digital Resistance and Charity

The DOGS memecoin traces its inspiration back to a symbolic dog drawing by Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov. Initially conceived as part of a charity auction, the dog emblem has since become an icon for The Open Network (TON), representing Digital Resistance.

Launched with a grand airdrop campaign in September, DOGS reached over 17 million users, promoting crypto adoption and animal welfare awareness. Its Telegram-based Dogs Mini App boasts over 53 million users, with 42 million eligible for the airdrop.

Token Performance and Future Plans

The DOGS token saw a meteoric rise, peaking at $0.0016 on August 28, shortly after its launch. However, it has since retraced by 54.6%, reflecting broader memecoin market trends. Despite market fluctuations, DOGS continues to focus on its mission of driving awareness for crypto and supporting charitable causes.

With its charity portal now live and a strong partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, DOGS is cementing its role as a socially responsible player in the crypto ecosystem.
