Streaming giant Netflix is in hot water after releasing its latest documentary, Biggest Heist Ever, which covers the infamous Bitfinex Bitcoin theft. Heather “Razzlekhan” Morgan, a social media influencer and convicted money launderer, has filed legal complaints against Netflix and its production partner, Library Films, accusing them of defamation and privacy violations.

Morgan, who will report to federal prison on February 4 after being convicted for laundering funds linked to the multi-billion-dollar heist, claims that the documentary spreads false and malicious statements about her involvement in the crime.

Morgan Accuses Netflix of Defamation and Privacy Breach

In a cease-and-desist letter sent to Netflix, Morgan’s attorney, Serena Wu, demanded that Netflix remove all unauthorized likenesses of wedding guests from the documentary and correct alleged falsehoods.

The legal team argues that the film misrepresents Morgan’s role in the heist, falsely portraying her as the mastermind behind the stolen Bitcoin scheme. One of the main accusations revolves around claims in the documentary that Morgan and her husband, Ilya Lichtenstein, purchased stolen passports, debit cards, and dark web identity documents—claims her legal team insists are unfounded.

According to the letter, basic fact-checking of public court records would have disproven these allegations. The lawsuit further claims that the documentary falsely depicts Morgan’s father-in-law as a hacker and wrongfully implicates other wedding attendees, violating California’s two-party consent law.

Netflix’s Legal Battle and Morgan’s Defense

Morgan’s legal team has threatened to escalate the case into a class-action lawsuit if Netflix fails to comply with their demands. The lawsuit marks another twist in the high-profile case, which has captured the public’s attention since 2016.

Her husband, Ilya Lichtenstein, was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in hacking Bitfinex and stealing 120,000 Bitcoin. Morgan, who was found guilty of laundering the stolen crypto, received an 18-month sentence. Despite her conviction, Morgan’s defense maintains that she was not directly involved in the theft itself.

Netflix has yet to respond publicly to the legal threats, but this case could set a precedent for how streaming platforms handle true-crime documentaries involving ongoing legal proceedings.

Crypto Crime and Its Growing Threat

The case against Morgan and Lichtenstein is one of the most infamous crypto-related heists, but it is far from the only one. Crypto crimes have been on the rise, with law enforcement agencies cracking down on cybercriminals.

In a recent case, authorities arrested 20-year-old Malone Lam and 21-year-old Jeandiel Serrano in Miami for stealing over 4,100 Bitcoin from a victim in Washington, D.C. The pair allegedly used sophisticated laundering techniques to fund a lavish lifestyle.

With crypto thefts becoming more common, regulators and law enforcement agencies continue to tighten surveillance and legal frameworks to curb illicit activities in the digital asset space.
