This surge in Bitcoin dominance is particularly noteworthy, as it had previously dropped to around 55% following Donald Trump’s election victory in November. During that period, many analysts predicted the onset of an “altseason,” where altcoins typically outperform Bitcoin. The Altcoin Index reached a yearly high of 90 during this phase, indicating strong capital flows into alternative digital assets.

However, recent policy changes by the Federal Reserve have sent shockwaves through the crypto market. Sharp price declines have led investors to pivot back to Bitcoin, widely regarded as a safer asset within the cryptocurrency space. Analysts now suggest that the altseason may have come to an end, with the Altcoin Index dropping to 43 as of December 20.

Bitcoin’s rising dominance signals a shift in market dynamics, reflecting a loss of confidence in the altcoin sector amid broader economic uncertainties.
