OpenAI, the San Francisco-based AI company known for its groundbreaking language models, has recently surpassed a significant milestone, expanding its business user base from 600,000 in April to over one million as of August. This 67% increase highlights the growing demand for advanced AI tools like ChatGPT, which offers sophisticated natural language processing capabilities to businesses across industries.

The latest data, revealed in a report by Reuters, suggests that OpenAI’s growth is far from slowing down. As it continues to scale, the company is also preparing to introduce higher-priced subscription tiers for its upcoming AI models, including the anticipated Strawberry and Orion models. These premium plans could reportedly cost up to $2,000 per month, catering to enterprises with higher AI demands.

This surge in business users comes amidst the release of xAI’s Grok-2 AI assistant, a competing product launched by Elon Musk’s venture. While xAI debuted in July 2023 and offers AI services to X Premium subscribers, analysts predict that it could become a major contender in the AI market by the end of 2024.

OpenAI’s valuation is also on the rise, expected to reach close to $100 billion. Recent reports suggest that Apple and Nvidia are exploring potential investments in the company’s next funding round. Microsoft, which holds a 49% stake in OpenAI after investing $13 billion since 2019, is also expected to participate in future investment opportunities.

While OpenAI’s business user base and weekly active users (now exceeding 200 million) have grown significantly, its revenue has not yet reached expectations. As of May 2024, OpenAI’s annual revenue was estimated at $3.4 billion, signaling room for further growth and strategic expansion.
